Good day, my name is Brenda Hernandez I am
eighteen years old. I am currently in my second semester at La Guardia
Community College as Paralegal Studies student.
My career interest is in the Law field. I
plan to work my way from being a paralegal to becoming a lawyer. I am still
undecided exactly what part of the law field. However I do have in mind Family
Law, Personal Injury or Wills Trust and estate.
There are several objectives I want to work
on throughout the semester in my internship that would benefit my future career
path. I want to understand the legal system and learn what different types of
lawyers do, and get their perspectives on their job. In addition, to be able to
apply my skills I learned in my classes and further develop them gaining a
better understanding of the law field.
My skills and experience include excellent
time management, proficient in Microsoft Word, Publisher and Power Point. I am
fluent in Spanish, have great Planning/Organizing
skills and I am reliable. I have some experience volunteering after
school helping kids with their homework. Although this does not connect specifically
to the law field, it has helped me build up on my communication skills.
Communicating with children is similar to dealing with clients. Just like every
kid is different, so are the clients, they all have their own attitudes. You have
to learn how to deal and communicate with them in a calm way. Not every one is
the same and you have to be aware of that.
What resources should students take
advantage of and focus on in the duration of their internship? Do you know what
skill sets are preferred in this industry? How many interns receive full time job offers?
Is there an opportunity for growth?
